With the bank holiday weekend fast approaching it can be difficult to think of things to keep us occupied that won’t cost the world, we have created this blog to provide you with a variety of imaginative ways to cure the boredom! It’s all about thinking outside the box, it may not be what you would usually get up to but you never know it may just be your new favourite pass time!

Dog Walking at your Local Rescue Centre

Most areas in the UK will have a local dog rescue, if not more often than not you will find one within an hour away. Some rescues you can just turn up but it is probably best to give them a pre-warning by phone call beforehand, you can find most rescues online so just give them a google. Walking rescue dogs is not just great fun it’s also very rewarding as you’re giving the dogs some freedom from their kennel, without volunteer dog walkers the staff may be too busy to get the dogs out for a walk. You may even fall in love one of the dogs and end up bringing one home to join your own family!

Go on a Picnic

We are forecasted to have blue skies this weekend so fingers crossed that doesn’t change! What better way to spend a sunny day than enjoying yummy nibbles alfresco style? Picnics are great for everyone as every human being eats food, you don’t even have to leave the house. Why not set your picnic up in the comfort of your own garden, this way if the British weather does take a turn for the worst you can quickly make a retreat indoors! If you have your heart set on taking a trip out with your picnic and the weather looks unsettling choose a country park, most country parks have cafes so if worst comes to worst you can ditch the picnic and head to the café for a cuppa!

Visit a museum

Admission to the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and many more in London are free, if you take a lunch box all you’ll need to pay for is transport. You may think walking around a museum is boring but it is likely that you will be pleasantly surprised. It’s not all about looking alone, there are many interactive experiences on offer to keep you on your toes. When you get peckish why not take your packed lunch outside to a park to enjoy the rare sunshine we get. This is something that is great for the whole family so if you have kids be sure to take them along with you.

Visit Arcades on the Sea Front

Bring back memories of your childhood and relive your youth by visiting arcades along the seafront, you may shock yourself at the endless fun you can have on all the different machines. Battle it out on the dance machines and give the looser the forfeit of buying a round of chips in a cone for lunch! You can even compete with each other on the 2p coin machines by each of you changing up the same amount of money, then whoever ends up with the most coins is the champion. The main aim of the day should of course be to come home with a stuffed toy you’ve won from the teddy machine, just make sure there’s room on your bed for it to take prized position.

Have a BBQ in the Sun

Ditch the kitchen and grill up a storm on the BBQ! Think outside the box when creating every aspect of your BBQ dishes, why not buy your meat fresh and marinate it yourself for that personal touch. Don’t let your side dishes take a back seat, make sure they’re as exciting as the main attraction. Instead of serving a plain salad make the most of the BBQ and grill sliced sweet potatoes, to finish drizzle over a homemade dressing of chilli, garlic, mint, olive oil and sherry vinegar. If you’re going to have corn on the cob liven them up by smothering in Siriacha hot sauce, mayonnaise, lime juice, feta cheese, chilli powder and topped off with coriander roughly chopped. There’s plenty of scrumptious easy recipes to search on Pinterest so get planning to create a feast fit for a king.

Bake a Cake

Put your baking skills to the test by baking a cake from scratch! Embrace the current summer vibes and make a vanilla sponge cake layered with lashing of fresh cream and berries, this is something most people would be able to attempt due to the final rustic appearance of the cake! If you do not put much faith into your baking abilities why not go for something much easier, try a Betty Crocker cake mix which comes in a box! All you need to do with a Betty Crocker is mix the contents of the bag together with eggs, to make it easier you can make cupcakes instead of one big cake!
