Don’t know about anyone else but when we think of Easter all that comes to mind is chocolate & bunnies, does anyone know what it’s all in aid of? It is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, Easter is also known as Pascha or Resurrection Sunday!  Whether you’re religious or not Easter is something that most of us celebrate on the first Sunday of every month, so it’s interesting to know what it’s actually about.

Easter Traditions

Decorating Eggs

The reason why Easter revolves around eggs is due to their symbol of rebirth and life. It is tradition to decorate all different types of eggs, including ostrich eggs which is believed to originate back to the ancient pagans. Nowadays we just tend to purchase chocolate eggs from our local super market, as always we are always disappointed that the inside is hollow! If you’re creative why not take a bash at decorating the eggs in your fridge, check out this link to create these elegant marble effect eggs https://www.southernliving.com/easter/nail-polish-easter-eggs The Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny

This probably isn’t what you’d expect but think of what rabbits are well known for, this will actually give you the answer as to why they are the symbol of Easter. The pagans celebrated a goddess of fertility named Eostre, and if you haven’t already worked it out the rabbit is famous for its fertility hence the expression ‘at it like rabbits’ therefore being the perfect symbol!

Hot Cross Buns

One of the yummiest things about Easter is the abundance of Hot Cross Buns on the shelves, thankfully they are now available all year round! As you probably know a traditional hot cross bun is sweet spiced with raisins and topped with a cross. The buns are to mark the end of lent and each component is to symbolise different parts of the crucifixion of Jesus. Why not think outside the box and make your own Hot Cross Buns this Easter, have some fun with the recipe by swapping the raisins to chocolate chips! Follow the recipe on the BBC website to see how it's done. Easter Eggs of 2018
